I prefer a.m. over p.m. shifts at work. I think I’m just hard-wired to be up in the morning. Even on my days off, I tend to wake up pretty early- I was even born in the morning. Last week I was planning on going home to Utah for a couple days, but I saw a really easy-looking two-day trip available to pick up. Even though it’s was a p.m. trip, I decided to grab it before someone else did. I’m glad I did!
I may have blogged about this fact before, but I have this little philosophy that I like to live by. Simply, I try to assume that everybody I meet in life wants to be my friend until that person shows me that he or she doesn’t want to be. That may sound conceited, but it’s really not. I try to treat others as if we’re old friends and that we just haven’t seen each other in awhile. I have had so many awesome adventures because of this.
On my flight last night, I met a passenger named Jared. We started chatting when I came through to bring him a beverage. He is a singer/songwriter who grew up in Reno but spent years in Nashville. Now he’s come back to live in the northwest. After my crew and I finished our service, we were hanging out in the back of the plane talking. Jared actually came to the back to have a chat with us.
We had a very long conversation. I liked the way he listened and seemed to be interested in what I was saying. He asked me about the nickname ‘Dav’ and told me all about his family and the fact that he’s the only one who goes by his given name. We talked about singing, music, travel, dreams, and a thousand other things. It was a great chat! I asked about his music and he let me hear a couple songs that he’d written and recorded. He is really talented!
Once the plane landed, I grabbed his album off of iTunes and he told me to learn the songs so he could call me up to sing backup vocals with him someday. How awesome would that be?! I’m about ¾ of the way through the album and have to say I’m really impressed! Trust me- I don’t throw out music compliments unless I feel like they’re really deserved. It’s great to make new friends!
